It’s so easy these days to snap quick pictures of things that interest us and catalogue them in our digital records. It takes seconds to capture something we find beautiful and we often move on before we really see what we’re looking at. Using a sketchbook or journal as a way to record the same experience slows us down, gets our heads out of our phones and helps us practice being in the moment. In this class we’ll explore the journal as an art form, and how to manually capture scenes and elements from your daily life or from the trip of your lifetime. We’ll look at what elements to draw, how to lay out your sketchbook page, and how to capture a scene quickly before the moment passes or you get too hungry ;)
Students will be introduced to the concept of having a personal journal as art form. They’ll learn how to compose and layout a page, and learn quick watercolor and pen and ink techniques - hopefully leaving inspired and ready to document any future travels they take.
