Artist Tina Somers will help guide participants with composition, technique, and direction at this workshop presented by the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden. This session is an in-person follow-up component to the Sketching in the Garden free Zoom workshop that will focus on sketching techniques, materials and things you need to know to get started.
All levels of experience welcome. This class will meet at the Louise Cain Gatehouse on the campus farm.
Materials Needed:
Sketch journal with paper suitable for wet and dry media, at least one of the following: watercolor kit/waterbrush, pencil/eraser, and/or fine-tipped ink pens such as micron pigma. For the in-person meeting, the Instructor will provide an array of sample materials if students want to try out/experiment with different media during the class.
What to bring:
Hat, sunscreen, water bottle, camp chair/stool or blanket/mat for comfortable sitting in the garden.
PARKING at LOT 116:
To reach the CASFS/UCSC Farm facility & gatehouse from Parking Lot 116, continue up the hill from the information kiosk on Coolidge Dr. and turn right at the Ranch View/Carriage House Road stoplight into the Carriage House/Campus Facilities parking lot (Lot 116). The Farm is a 5-minute walk across the street from the parking lot.
Walk across Coolidge and follow the signs that say Center for Agroecology/Farm Pedestrians.
Walk 1/5 mile up the gravel road that parallels the paved bike path to a short set of stairs and a wooden entrance gate. PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO WALK ON THE PAVED BIKE PATH! BIKES COME DOWN THE HILL RAPIDLY!
