Join us on Saturday, June 15 for all the above at Art in the Park: Big Basin! This event will feature temporary art exhibits inspired by Big Basin’s recovery and created by the Art About program artists and hands-on art activities for you and your family.
There will be over a dozen art exhibits including fiber art, wood carvings, photography, and multimedia interactive installations, plus free guided nature journaling hikes, a kids’ craft station, and more!
No art experience or supplies needed, just bring yourself, your family, your friends…and don’t forget your bottled water (there’s no drinking water in the park). For more information, visit www.castateparksweek.org
🚌 Plan on taking the Santa Cruz Metro 35B bus to travel to and from the park on June 15. The small Big Basin parking lot is expected to completely fill early in the day. The 35B bus will be free on the day of the event and offer extra service. Free parking is available at the Santa Cruz Metro Scotts Valley Transit Center.

On June 3rd and 4th of 2023, California State Parks invited 18 regional artists to participate in a unique camping trip in Big Basin Redwoods State Park.
This was the first camping trip in Big Basin Redwoods State Park since the CZU Lightning Complex Fire in 2020, and California State Parks was excited to have artists join this special moment of renewal and restoration as we work to reimagine the park and transition from devastation to inspiration.
During their experience, artists had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Big Basin and gain inspiration from the majestic redwoods, tranquil creeks, and vibrant wildlife. Artists had the chance to meet and connect with fellow artists, share their work, and collaborate on new projects.
